She wants to live, not die

She wanted to die.
Why would she not?
Just a few days ago, her son had been killed in a bomb blast. She was a widow
and an orphan. Even her parents-in-law were not there, for whom she could
think of living.
Suicide was the only way out for her. She climbed to the top of the building
and stood on the parapet. For one last time, she looked down. At the world
that had been so cruel to her.
And her eyes fell on a boy sitting all by himself. Even from that height, she
could tell he was sad and unhappy. His shoulders were slumped and his head hung on his chest.
Suddenly Sonya wanted to talk to him. Something about him pulled her. She
wanted to meet the boy before she died.
She climbed down to the ground floor and went to him. She talked to him and
he told her about himself. His name was Karthik. His parents had been killed in
the same bomb blast a few days ago and he did not have anyone to take care
of him. As she listened to him, Sonya felt sad that like her Karthik had no one
left after that bomb blast. After some thinking, Sonya asked him if he would like
to come and stay with her. She wanted to adopt him and be his mother.
Karthik was surprised; he had never expected this to happen but he agreed,
because he was also pulled to Sonya.
This was three months ago.
Now Sonya and Karthik live together as mother and son. Sonya has a goal. The
goal to make Karthik a successful and kind person.
She wants to live, not die.
